Rotterdam
The fifth SS Rotterdam, also known as "The Grande Dame," was built by Rotterdam Drydock Company in the Netherlands and christened by Queen Juliana in 1958. Originally designed as a two-class ocean liner with movable partitions for flexible conversion to cruising, the Rotterdam served Holland America Line from 1959 until 1997, transitioning from transatlantic service to full-time cruising as air travel grew in popularity. After her retirement from cruise service, the ship was permanently docked in Rotterdam and converted into a hotel ship and museum, where she remains today.
Rotterdam measures 297 metres in length with a beam of 34 metres, and has a gross tonnage of 99,800. The ship accommodates 2,668 passengers on a lower berth basis across 1,340 cabins spread over 13 decks, supported by a crew of 1,025. She is powered by MAK engines and operates at a service speed of 24 knots.
