Spirit of Discovery
Spirit of Discovery is Saga Cruises' first new-build ship, marking a significant shift from the company's previous practice of purchasing secondhand vessels. Built by Meyer Werft in Germany, the ship was christened by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall at the Port of Dover, becoming the first ship to be christened there in more than a decade. Shortly after her delivery, the ship collided with bollards at the Great Sea Lock in Emden, though she sustained only superficial damage while the bollards received significant harm.
The ship has a gross tonnage of 58,250 and accommodates up to 999 passengers on a lower berth basis, supported by a crew of 530. She measures 236 metres in length with a beam of 31 metres, spans 14 decks, and offers 554 cabins in total. Her service speed is 23 knots.
