
Carnival Encounter
Built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, Carnival Encounter originally entered service as Star Princess for Princess Cruises, becoming the first "mega-ship" to be homeported in Los Angeles and cruise the West Coast full-time. The vessel was transferred to P&O Cruises Australia and renamed Pacific Encounter before joining Carnival Cruise Line's fleet as Carnival Encounter.
Carnival Encounter measures 290 metres in length with a beam of 36 metres, a gross tonnage of 108,977, and spans 18 decks. The ship accommodates 2,596 passengers on a lower berth basis across 1,298 cabins, supported by a crew of 1,100. Propulsion is provided by Wartsila-Sulzer engines, with a service speed of 24 knots.
