Carnival Sunshine
Originally launched as Carnival Destiny, this ship debuted in 1996 as the first passenger vessel to exceed 100,000 gross tons and the world's largest passenger ship at that time, holding the record until 1998. Built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy, the ship received a major refit and rename to Carnival Sunshine in 2013, with Lin Arison serving as godmother at both the original christening and the formal renaming ceremony. The vessel now operates primarily from Norfolk, Virginia, marking the first time a cruise ship has been homeported year-round at that port.
Carnival Sunshine measures 103,881 gross registered tons with an overall length of 272 metres and a beam of 36 metres. The ship accommodates 3,002 passengers on a lower berth basis across 1,501 cabins on 13 decks, supported by a crew of 1,040. She is powered by Wartsila-Sulzer engines and operates at a service speed of 23 knots.
