MS Spitsbergen
Originally built as a Portuguese car ferry named Atlântida, MS Spitsbergen was converted to a cruise ship and subsequently purchased by Hurtigruten AS, undergoing extensive modifications at Fosen Yard including the removal of its car deck and installation of additional cabins and expedition equipment. The ship was christened by polar explorer Cecilie Skog in Svolvær, marking Hurtigruten's first ship naming ceremony in nine years, and has since operated on Arctic expeditions to Canada, Iceland, Greenland, and Svalbard, with a voyage around Svalbard featured in the NRK2 series Svalbard minutt for minutt.
MS Spitsbergen has a gross tonnage of 7,344 and a lower berth passenger capacity of 335, served by a crew of 65. The ship measures 101 metres in length and 18 metres in beam across 8 decks, offering 180 cabins in total. She is powered by Niigata engines and operates at a service speed of 15 knots.
