Norwegian Sky
Norwegian Sky is a Sun-class cruise ship that was originally ordered by Costa Cruises as Costa Olympia but remained incomplete when the Bremer Vulkan shipyard went bankrupt, with only 35 percent of the hull finished. Norwegian Cruise Line purchased the unfinished vessel in December 1997, redesigned her as Norwegian Sky, and completed her construction at Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven, making her the first new ship to enter service with NCL following a period of financial difficulties for the company. Between 2004 and 2008, the vessel operated as Pride of Aloha for NCL America before returning to service under her original Norwegian Sky name.
Norwegian Sky measures 258 metres in length with a beam of 32 metres and a gross tonnage of 77,104. The ship has 12 decks and 1,002 cabins, accommodating up to 2,004 passengers on a lower-berth basis, supported by a crew of 899. She is powered by MAN B engines and operates at a service speed of 23 knots.
