Norwegian Star

Norwegian Star is a Dawn-class cruise ship built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, that was originally ordered by Star Cruises under the name SuperStar Libra before being transferred to Norwegian Cruise Line. The ship is a Panamax vessel designed to the maximum size accommodated by the Panama Canal's original locks, and was notably built without a casino due to Hawaiian law restrictions at the time, though one was added later when the ship was repositioned. Unusual among cruise ships of its era, Norwegian Star features twin three-bedroom suites with private gardens and sundecks situated atop the vessel, and its decor and layout were designed to appeal to Asian and Australian passengers rather than Americans.
