Diamond Princess

Diamond Princess was the first Princess Cruises ship to be built in a Japanese shipyard by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and swapped names with her sister ship Sapphire Princess during construction after a fire delayed the other vessel's completion. The ship primarily cruises in Asia during the northern hemisphere summer and Australia during the southern hemisphere summer, and notably experienced a norovirus outbreak in 2016 and a major COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 that resulted in quarantine for nearly a month with passengers aboard and at least nine deaths. In 2017, Diamond Princess was retrofitted with a hull air lubrication system to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
