MS Vesterålen
MS Vesterålen is the sole remaining vessel of the Midnatsol-class still operating in Hurtigruten service. Built at Kaarbøs Mekaniske Verksted in Harstad, the ship was delivered to Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab and entered coastal service as a replacement for its namesake from 1950. Originally designed with emphasis on cargo transport, the vessel underwent a major reconstruction that added a prefabricated passenger section and panorama lounge, increasing its passenger capacity significantly and allowing it to remain in active service on the Bergen–Kirkenes route under current operator Hurtigruten Norge.
